Fossil Free Eugene

Fossil Free Eugene is a coalition of grassroots organizations calling on the City of Eugene to follow through with the goals that it set for itself and lead the way to forging a just transition away from fossil fuels for all of its residents.

We are calling on the city of Eugene to take immediate action to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels by:

  1. Facilitating a just transition for frontline and historically marginalized communities by:
    • providing trainings and resources to increase the accessibility of Inflation Reduction Act funds and other local, state, and national subsidies
    • working with utilities to reduce energy burden
    • Identifying additional funding streams to support whole home retrofits for historically marginalized groups beyond the capacity of the IRA programs
  2. Mandating that new construction in Eugene be built all-electric
  3. Transitioning all utilities in the City to 100% renewable energy by 2030

We do this by:

  • Giving public testimony and lobbying elected leaders
  • Providing educational opportunities and resources for our community in person and online
  • Producing sign-on letters and recommendations for subject matter experts
  • Organizing public actions
  • Providing online actions and easy opportunities to engage
  • And more!

Our Steering Committee includes 350 Eugene, Beyond Toxics, Breach Collective, Cascadia Wildlands, Eugene/Springfield NAACP, and Springfield/Eugene Tenants Association. Our greater coalition includes over 15 active organizational members and many more community partners.

Eugene has been a leader in clean energy policy work and in the face of local climate villain, and Oregon's largest gas utility, NW Natural's greenwashing, astroturfing, and effectively unlimited resources. Read more about our campaign and check out our resources here.
